How I’ve Changed My Diet Recently

I try and incorporate some type of exercise into my daily routine, but recently I’ve been doing something a little different in terms of my diet that’s really been making me feel good.


It’s called Intermittent Fasting.

What is intermittent fasting?

It’s basically just alternating periods of eating and fasting. Usually you fast for around 16 hours everyday, and only eat within an 8 hour window.

What it’s NOT…

Intermittent fasting isn’t starving yourself, it’s just giving your digestive system a break. So if you try this please DO NOT try and push the limits and “see how long you can go without food”. That’s not the point of it and that’s actually really unhealthy to do. Starving yourself, restricting food, or making yourself crazy hungry isn’t the point. It’s not starvation, just a break for your body.

How I do it?

I usually eat dinner anywhere from 6pm-8pm and then I don’t eat anything for 16 hours after. So if I stop eating at 8pm, I don’t eat until 12pm the next day.

Then from 12pm on I eat normally. For me that normally looks like a salad for lunch, a granola bar for a snack, and some kind of protein & veggies for dinner. Sometimes I’ll have fruit after dinner too, but not always.

After 8pm, I drink water and sometimes tea before bed. And when I wake up, I drink coffee with almond milk and tons of water. (Yes you can have coffee, it just can’t contain dairy or sugar. So unsweetened almond milk is what I use.)

I adjust the timing of the intermittent fast based on what I have going on, but I always wait 16 hours before eating my first meal the next day.


Why do I do it?

Since doing this I feel more lean and lighter, and I notice results from my workouts faster. My skin benefits so much too! It also gives me more time in the mornings because I don’t have to worry about breakfast. But I’ve been loving this routine and have noticed positive changes so I’m going to keep doing it!

I will be honest though, I’m not always the best with it on the weekends because of plans I make or what I’m doing. But during the week I’m usually pretty good with it and love how I feel.
